Sunday 30 August closed the season of big 70.3 races in Poland. At Lake Kierskie in Poznań, Poland, Agnieszka Gadomska won for the second time this year, pulling back a deficit of more than three minutes on the run. The men’s race went to Denmark’s Emil Holm, while the fastest Polish finisher was Michał Oliwa, fifth on his debut over the distance.

Gadomska chases and wins

Britain’s Molly Savill led out of the swim, 49 seconds up on Sophie Fischer and Zsofia Kovacs. Gadomska was 1:36 down. On the bike the Germans Jenny Jendryschik and Carolin Meyer took over at the front, and after 90 kilometres Gadomska was 3:20 behind the leader.

That was when the chase started. She covered the first half of the run at 3:42 min/km, clearly quicker than the rivals ahead of her, and took the gap back steadily. She finished in 4:05:41, the fastest of her PRO starts at the distance. Her half marathon split was 1:19:51, about seven minutes quicker than the second placed athlete.

Women’s podium:

  1. Agnieszka Gadomska, 4:05:41
  2. Jenny Jendryschik (GER), 4:09:01
  3. Carolin Meyer (GER), 4:10:35

Aleksandra Bańbor, the second Polish athlete in the PRO field, took 6th in 4:21:18.

This was Gadomska’s second win in Poland this season, after IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia.

Holm defends his title, Oliwa leads the Poles

First out of the water were Emil Holm, Michał Oliwa and Mateusz Głuszkowski, three athletes known for strong swimming over shorter distances. Holm built his lead on the bike and reached transition with 1:51 in hand over Janne Buttel. Oliwa was 3:48 back at that point, in 4th.

Holm never gave up the lead on the run and won in 3:34:34, repeating his 2024 victory in Poznań. Behind him the rest of the podium was still being fought over. Leonard Arnold finished second (3:37:19) and Janne Buttel held third (3:38:36) ahead of Arthur Serrieres.

On his first start over 70.3, Oliwa ran the half marathon hard enough to move past Arthur Serrieres. He took 5th in 3:39:09.
