Sussex Downs Trail

Set against the stunning backdrop of the South Downs National Park in Mid-Sussex, the Sussex Downs Half Marathon invites runners of all levels to take on an unforgettable challenge. Easily accessible from Brighton, Haywards Heath, Lewes, and Burgess Hill, the race begins at the well-appointed Plumpton Racecourse, nestled at the foot of the Downs. Participants can choose from three route options: a classic 21km Half Marathon, a 15km standard route, or a shorter 10km course, making the event welcoming for both seasoned athletes and newcomers. Each course starts with a gently undulating, tree-lined 3.5km section before ascending to the iconic South Downs Way, where breathtaking views of the Sussex countryside, Seven Sisters Country Park, and even distant sea panoramas await. The route showcases rewarding climbs, scenic descent, and a fast, flat final stretch to the finish line.
