Samarkand Marathon is one of the largest running events in Central Asia. It takes place as a large-scale sports festival, featuring a concert program, a plogging run, children’s races, and a guided running tour around the city. Participants can choose from distances of 42.2 km, 21.1 km, 10 km, 5 km, and 2 km, as well as Nordic walking. The course runs through Samarkand’s key cultural and historical landmarks — past ancient mosques and madrasahs, along streets with traditional mahallas, and with views of the iconic blue domes of Registan Square. The race courses are officially measured and certified in accordance with World Athletics standards. Samarkand Marathon is a member of AIMS, a qualifying race for the Age Group World Marathon Majors series, accredited by She Races, and part of the TAN series — the first running association of Central Asia and the Caucasus.
