The Midmar Mile is the world's largest open water swimming event, with over 25,000 swimmers competing in Midmar Dam in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The one-mile course takes place over two days with multiple age-group waves. Founded in 1974, it has become a South African sporting institution.
